This hotel was built in 1893 and people have stated that the elevator works by itself and the doors open and close on their own. There is also a phantom smell of cigar smoke in the lobby. The spirit of a little girl in Victorian clothing has been seen on the staircase and the ghost of a murdered chambermaid is said to materialize in the Devereux room at night.

  • Experienced unusual occurrence during stay in mid 80’s

In the mid 80’s, My fiancé and I stayed at hotel Colorado on the 3rd fl. I kept waking up in middle of night (2-4am) by loud partying, glasses clinking people talking really loud, slamming doors, yelling. Each time I opened door to tell the noisy people to be quiet, no one was there and the hallway was silent and empty. I also kept hearing a man and woman yelling and arguing with each other. The woman kept shouting and screaming , “I’m going to call the police!” Each time I’d go back to bed, go to sleep, then be reawakened by this loud fighting and scream by the woman. Each time, I’d quietly open the door only to find all the noise ceased once I opened the door and not a soul was in the hallway and all was quiet. It eventually ended as I fell asleep. Next morning I was really irritated that not one of our friends or my fiancé had heard anything the night before..I even asked several hotel employees in the morning and asked them if there was a huge commotion going on , on our floor— they replied they’d not heard anything and there was no party or unusual noise that was reported on our floor.. ( I was not under the influence of anything legal or illegal and was in a healthy state of mind) I was never scared just confused as to why no one had heard the comotion and the woman screaming and waking me up all night and no one else hearing this. . years later I learned about unusual occurrences at the hotel Colorado. (At the time I wasn’t scared at all as I thought there were real people making all this raucous, ( if I thought for one minute it was spiritual, I probably would have been very frightened). I had no idea when we stayed there , that the place had a haunting history) it is a beautiful hotel, but, I’d be too chicken to stay there again??
