The Windsor Hotel was built in 1874 and was a popular place for cowboys, settlers, and European settlers. A lady named Maude came through the San Luis Valley and arrived in Del Norte. Her and the love of her life decided to stay at the hotel for 6 days. Her love told her he would be right back and as he left, she noticed him from the window getting into the car with another woman. He never returned. 4 days later, Maude went across the street and purchased a first model of the 357 Magnum, the largest revolver of that time. She aimed it at her head and shot herself dead. Now, if you stay in the same room where she stayed long ago, you may be able to hear her moan in the room and peer over your bed at night groaning in pain from the loss of her love and the pain from her gunshot wound.
